Infinity Ward has confirmed that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will only be released for the current generation of consoles and on PC, after being asked by fans on Twitter.
GameStop is kicking off its pre-Black Friday deals today, and one of its sale offers is absolutely ridiculous. We already all know and agree that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is one of this year’s biggest and best games, yes? It’s on a lot of wish lists.
More than two years into the current console generation, we're still seeing some major releases straddle both sets of consoles — but it's clear that time is almost up for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. This year's Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will only be released for current generation hardware.
Asked by a fan on Twitter in the wake of yesterday's big reveal, Infinity Ward confirmed that the game is not being developed for the PlayStation 3. While there's no specific confirmation that the Xbox 360 is also being left in the cold, neither console has been mentioned in any marketing materials released so far.
This news shouldn't be too surprising to fans of the Call of Duty series. Last year's instalment — the well-received Black Ops III, developed by Treyarch — did see an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 release, but that version of the game didn't include its campaign mode.
It remains to be seen whether the bundled Modern Warfare Remastered will make its way to older consoles. Windows 10 iso for mac. At present, Activision is maintaining that the game won't be sold separately to Infinite Warfare, but that could perhaps change if there's an audience hungry for the port.
However, the re-release might be part of the reason that Infinite Warfare isn't making its way to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Given that both games would need to be ported, it's likely that enough of the franchise's player base has upgraded to the current generation of consoles that catering to holdouts wouldn't pay off.
While there are still releases scheduled for the previous generation of consoles, this news does demonstrate that they're on their last legs. Once massive franchises like Call of Duty have abandoned the platform, there's really nothing much that can be done to delay the inevitable.
Given the enduring rumors surrounding Sony's PS4K project, and the likelihood that Microsoft is working on a similar hardware update, it makes a lot of sense for yesterday's consoles to fade into the background. Given that the current generation of hardware is now firmly established, their time is almost up.
Now, Call of Duty fans who are yet to make the jump are being faced with a difficult decision — is better to upgrade this year to play Infinite Warfare on release, or wait until any hardware revisions have been released to get the most up-to-date console? For now, it's perhaps worth waiting to see what's announced at E3.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on November 4, 2016.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was announced this week only for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, but some might have wondered if the game, or a version of it, would also be on the way for last-generation consoles.
Now, it looks like that will not be the case. Someone asked developer Infinity Ward on Twitter if Infinite Warfare was coming to PlayStation 3, to which the studio responded, 'No, it will not.' If it's not coming to PS3, then presumably it will not be made for Xbox 360, either.

GameSpot has followed up with Activision in an attempt to confirm this and find out why the company is leaving last-generation consoles behind.
2015's Call of Duty: Black Ops III was released for current- and previous-generation systems. However, the PS3/Xbox 360 version of that game did not include a campaign, but instead only multiplayer and Zombies.
With the PS4 and Xbox One console generation taking hold, currently accounting for at least 55 million consoles sold between the them according to estimates, it's not much of a surprise that the Call of Duty series is leaving older consoles behind. It was only a matter of time, and now, it appears Infinite Warfare is ushering in a new era of current-generation only Call of Duty releases.
Some have criticized cross-generational development, claiming that needing to deliver the same game on different hardware can lead to 'compromises.' As such, Call of Duty moving to new-generation systems only may end up being a boon for the series, though that remains to be seen.
Infinite Warfare launches on November 4. GameSpot recently spoke with design director Jacob Minkoff, who told us why the game is going to space and what that allows.
Also on the way is a Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare remaster. Activision recently showcased the game's many graphical improvements as part of a comparison video.
